ABSTRACT

A simple and efficient protocol has been developed for the synthesis of Hantzsch pyridines. In the reported synthesis, a variety of aldehydes undergo smooth condensation reaction with ethyl acetoacetate and ammonium acetate in presence of Germanium (IV) iodide in acetonitrile. This method is applicable to a variety of substrates to afford the corresponding 1,4-dihydropyridines in one-pot reaction in excellent yields.
