Applying AI to the Academic Papers for writing to ACG Publications
Policy and authorized content authors
These policies are designed to clearly communicate "how-to" information to all key stakeholders in our journals: authors, peer reviewers, editors, and readers.
Following informations are including the ‘’writing’’ of a paper but not includes the applying AI instruments to analyze the datasets.
Our perspective to AI is very simple, applying AI technology to improve the readability is completely fine, this enables non-native English speakers to contrubite the science and makes everything easier to clearing the sentences. On the other hand we believe that language and literature is a key ability of an author to express theirself therefore AI can not be used to write a paper from stratch but we support AI usage to fix the language and make it more accesable
However, using AI to generate results is not permitted, as the calculations and information may be incorrect or manipulated by AI tools.
Authors are required to state in their manuscripts if they have used generative AI or AI-assisted technologies, and this disclosure will be included in the published version. Such transparency helps build trust among authors, readers, reviewers, editors, and contributors, while also ensuring compliance with the terms of use of the respective tools or technologies. This policy applies solely to the creation of new content (e.g., new works or newly added sections in a revised version). Generative AI and AI-assisted tools must not be applied to material that has already been published.
Using AI Tools for Figures and Artwork.
ACG publication is completely against to use AI for artwork hence AI tools are learning the ‘’art’’ from the current artists without their permission, and creates a new art based on that on the other hand using AI tools to fix brightness, color balance, contrast is accepted as much as the final work is presenting the original
The exception to this policy is when generative AI tools are explicitly used as part of the research design or methodology (considering, AI-based imaging techniques used to analyze research data, such as in biomedical field). In such cases, their use must be described in a reproducible way within the methods section. This description should include details on how the tools were applied in creating or modifying images, along with the model or tool name, version and extension numbers, and the manufacturer and must be cited clearly.
When relevant, authors may also be required to provide the original, unaltered images and/or the composite raw data used to produce the final submitted images for editorial review.
In Summary
ACG Publications journals require authors to declare in their cover letters whether they used artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted technologies (such as chatbots or image generators) in the production of their submitted work. Authors who use such technologies must explain how they used them in both the cover letter and the appropriate section of the submitted work, if applicable. For example, if AI was used for writing assistance, please explain this in the acknowledgments section. If AI was used for data collection, analysis, or figure creation, authors must disclose this use in the methods section. AI applications or chatbots may not be listed in any author lists. Authors should remember that they should carefully review and edit datasets generated by AI to prevent the possibility of generating seemingly reliable but inaccurate, incomplete, or biased output. Authors must document plagiarism-free articles, including AI-generated text and images, with Inthenticate screening reports and declare it in their cover letters. It is essential to ensure that scientific citations for data added with AI are clearly provided. ACG Publications is pleased to express its intention to implement the approaches of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors, as outlined below. It is committed to regularly reviewing its policy as new AI-related issues emerge.
